Sacred Pokémon and Psychedelic Nintendo
There are many examples of the sacred themes throughout that of Nintendo. One particular entheogen (a sacred substance used for spiritual ritualistic purposes) the famous Amanita Muscaria mushroom, whose usage is said to predate that of alcohol by about 10,000 years as numerous cultures thereof throughout the worldover, has been portrayed in Nintendo games thematically since the company's very beginnings. Perhaps the most famous example comes from the game, “Super Mario”, wherein, Mario, the protagonist, eats the Amanita mushroom and it makes him grow taller and stronger! But there are many more examples of the presence of the Amanita in Nintendo games. To name a few: Earthbound, Zelda, Pokémon, and many, many more!
Let’s take a look at the usage of the Amanita throughout the Pokémon video game and Animé series!
- Sacred Pokémon
Above: Paras, a crab Pokèmon with two Amanita Muscaria mushrooms growing out of its back.
Below: Parasect, the evolved form of Paras, featuring one large amanita cap on its back. It’s almost as if the crab (being the most common creature for a single celled organism to evolve into over time) is evolving into the mushroom - the most evolved creature over time, as we no longer see the stem of the mushroom, just the crab himself. If only mushrooms could mobilize…
A one very notable example of the Amanita can be seen on the Pokémon Paras and its evolved form: Parasect. Both Pokémon have the Amanita depicted on their backs, but so does another Pokémon! This Pokémon is none other than, you guessed it (did you really?, if so great job, I only caught this because I was looking for it)…Venusaur!
- Venusaur
Venusaur is one of the original creatures created by the artists of the design team at Gamefreak. Gamefreak is the incorporated entity responsible for the highly acclaimed spectacular of a subject that is the enterprise: “Pokémon”. Before we dive deeper into Venusaur, a preface with a little bit about Pokémon: Pokémon, originally called “Pocket Monsters”, is a game that features small animal, plant, and mushroom-like creatures which could be captured and kept in one’s pocket. The extremely rare original idea was put into a video game for the original Nintendo console, and the creatures were caught from the top of the screen and into a person’s jeans pocket, though this is widely unknown about as it gained almost entirely no success whatsoever as a game, though if a copy of it was to be found anywhere, it could presumably be worth millions. Anyway, the game was eventually adapted to the shorter title, and was then given a totally rethought narrative, wherein the creatures, who were to be found in the wild of grasslands, forests, and caves until they were caught by a trainer with a Pokéball, would then have personalities, evolutionary states, and of course, indeed, human trainers. Pokémon would then become the trainers' companions. Pokèmon are used in battle, traded, and in later generations or even on the Animé television series they are also breeded. There was also a Pokémon trading card game which gained massive attention in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and many still collect, trade, buy, sell, and battle the cards until this day.
It is unknown exactly who specifically designed each and every Pokémon, although, the respective designs of each Pokémon was indeed finalized by the head of the team of artists at Gamefreak, Ken Sukimora. This brings us back to Venusaur. Venusaur, being quite popular since he is the evolved form of one of three starter Pokémon that a trainer in the beginning of the original Gameboy video game series gets to choose from, has quite the design you might say! In fact, he may be one of the best art depictions ever created to summarize the main themes of both testaments of the Holy Judeo-Christian Bible! Before we dive deeper into this though, let’s see what we have to look at as far as information on the artistic design of Venusaur, and what the intentions were of the artists. In other words, what really is a ‘Venusaur’? Let’s explore this.
In an interview by a Japanese interviewer named “Kiritani”, some questions are asked to Sukimora. An excerpt from the Japanese interview is translated below wherein Sukimora explains about what Venusaur is:
Notice how Sukimora is repeatedly asked about the flower blooming on Venusaur's back. He never says anything about it though, other than that it is clearly the case with Ivysaur, or, Fushigibana (see photo at the very bottom and the full interview in the citation) but not with Venusaur - because he knows that it is indeed not just a flower on Venusaur’s back – it is a tree that has leaves on it which depict the Amanita Muscaria – one of the most famous mushrooms of antiquity – one that is used in many ritualisms the worldover and is in fact for this very reason now being called an entheogen (for more on cultural ritualisms of the Amanita, see chapter 13 describing its usage in early christianity and Siberian/proto-Russian shamanism). An entheogen is a psychoactive substance used for ritual purposes that are spiritual or religious in nature. A more direct translation from Latin for the word entheogen is, "God within".
Let’s not forget that Venusaur is a frog though! This also holds significance as well, as a frog is the foremost representative of the reptile species! This is important to note as depictions of demonic entities all throughout regions that were the setting of the Holy Judeo-Christia Bible were indeed depicted artistically as being reptilian entities. We see this thematically all throughout the middle east, Italy, Greece, and actually also the worldover! Keep this in mind as we’ll circle back to this after some further explanation of what appears to be growing out of the frog’s back.
So, here’s a question: what might all of this have to do with Venusaur and his leaves, which share the same design as this legendary mushroom? Well, we already can assume that this design was indeed intentional, and not just some cool nature inspired imagery (although the Amanita is perhaps one of the most beautiful sites in nature), as depictions of the Amanita are indeed present in so many other works coming out of Nintendo, as is aforementioned… Therefore, thematically, it would seem there is something they are trying to tel us, and this indeed becomes more and more evident the more one plays the games and examines such themes. For Venusaur in particular, however, the case made herein is that this Pokémon has ‘the tree of life’ from the Holy Judeo-Christian Bible growing on top of his frog’s back.
- The Tree of Life
The tree of life, as is first mentioned and foretold about in the book of Genesis, the first book in the Old Testament, is a key symbol of Christianity - and here it is, growing right out of Venusaur! As well, throughout the remainder of the Old Testament and onward into the Gospels of the New Testament, the tree of life holds massive significance. The coming of Christ actually also is thought by theologians to be the tree of life foretold about in the Old Testament.

- “The Mysterious Garden of Bulbasaur”
I was watching an episode from the original Pokémon series “Indigo League” where I came to hear all of this explained. In that episode, Brock, Misty, and Ash all rush to find where Pikachu and Squirtle ran off to when they were looking for Ash’s Bulbasaur, who had just disappeared away from the party. It turns out that Bulbasaur showed up at a festival where the great Venusaur, who in the episode was the tribe leader or chieftain of the Bulbasaurs, was teaching the Bulbasaurs how to evolve in Ivysaurs - the purpose of the festival. When they got there, Ash wanted to intervene, but Brock recommended that they not interfere with what the Pokémon were naturally doing. Brock then went on to explain that it is unknown as to whether Venusaur is actually a plant or an animal, and that many scientists have tried to figure it out for years! Because of this, Brock continues by saying that perhaps Venusaur is a great example of the unity between animals and plants in nature, and that “…maybe we could all learn something about how to live more in harmony with nature from Venusaur!” This is key, because it is exactly the same case with mushrooms.
No one has known for years whether mushrooms are plants or animals. Mushrooms breathe in oxygen, while plants take in carbon dioxide, yet, they grow out of the same Earth and in much of the same way physically, at least upon first glance... New research also shows that human DNA is evermore similar to fungi DNA than it is even to our most native chimpanzee ancestor whether one believes in evolution or no!! Therefore, Brock's explanation gives us many clues to the symbolic meaning of Venusaur.
If we take another close look at the design of Venusaur, we not only see the tree that is a palm tree - the sacred tree of the Middle East whose leaves were used to greet Jesus who was soon to be the Christ, prophetically riding on a donkey into the holy city of Jerusalem in fulfillment with the Scriptures (this is now a church holiday called 'Palm Sunday'), but also, the leaves on the tree are in fact not just the design of some leaves that exist in the plant kingdom, no, they could only be the design that exists on the Amanita Muscaria mushroom presuppositionally. So indeed, we have ‘the tree of life’ growing on top of the frog, do we not?
Next, we should take note of the golden crown on top of the palm tree, or, the tree of life, growing on Venusaur's back. This, the golden crown, depicts how the ‘tree of life’ is actually also a representation of Jesus Christ the King Himself – a common belief among many Christian denominations as is aforementioned. References for this belief come from the New Testament but they harken back throughout the Old Testament and retrospectively all the way back to the beginning of the Genesis creation story. So, clearly, Venusaur is representing the tree of life and in all its glory and wonder, and its rebirth among those who come to know Christ as he arguably brought back, traditionally speaking, many entheogenic ritualisms throughout the fulfillment of scriptures. These fulfillmients (Mark 2, The Wedding at Cana, and the Last Supper to name a few) takes place in the Gospels as is explained about throughout the course of this book.
If only Kirtani, our interviewer from earlier, would have realized the importance of this, rather than simply being so baffled by the fact that Venusaur is a frog!...though we see the importance of the frog as well!... Anyone looking for this would see the tree of life, but maybe not the frog, however… Perhaps Venusaur shows us that the tree of life - the representation of all that is good and eternal - what can save us from trying to become gods ourselves by eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (as is told of in the Genesis creation story), will triumph over the demons. The good will prevail, is the message we see with the artistic creation of Venusaur.
There are even more startling implications to Venusaur. We could go into the name, and how Venus, the prefix, connects us to many sacred traditions such as Good Friday, a tradition in Orthodox Christianity and Catholicism, pagan rituals, viking mythology, and much, much more! Also, the ‘saur’ suffix, confirms the reptilian or demon notion, as dinosaur are often thought of as monsters, as is portrayed throughout many legends of old. Not to switch the subject back to Super Mario before we’re done with Pokémon, but, let’s not forget about Bowser - the antagonist who steals Mario’s wife, Princess Peach, as he is indeed a reptilian dinosaur demon creation of Nintendo!
It is amazing how many examples of clever usages of the Amanita Muscaria mushroom exist within the enterprise of Nintendo gaming. We have the “Mushroom Kingdom” of the Mario series for crying out loud! We will also explore the similarities to many legends of old and the role of the Amanita in “Super Mario” a bit further, but first, we’ll continue onward with Pokémon and segue into the ‘white magic’ being used in the media present throughout the Pokémon series in general.
Bulbasaur - the first stage of the three-part evolutionary Pokémon
Above: Ivysaur, the in-between form of Bulbasaur and Venusaur.
Below: Venusaur showing Bulbasaur how to evolve into an Ivysaur (from "The Mysterious Garden of Bulbasaur" episode 51 of “Pokémon Indigo League”). It is also noteworthy that Venusaur (whose name has Venus in it - a planet of entheogenic reference in ancient Greece) having the Amanita Tree of Life present on its back, is the one teaching the young Bulbasaur how to evolve. This coincides with Terrance Mckenna’s “Stoned Ape Theory” which purports that Chimpanzees evolved to communicate as well as to see and to hunt through the means of Psilocybe mushrooms present in the cow dung of the Saharan grasslands since the chimp had retreated to said grasslands out of the dangerous rainforests some millions of years ago…

- White Magic Usage in Generation IV of the Pokémon Gameboy Game Series: Revealing The Plot of the Team Galactic aka the New World Order to Young Gamers
It would also seem that in the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series that the game creators allude to the presence of what is known as ‘the New World Order’ - a purported plan from hierarchical, historical organizations such as the ‘Illuminati’ to overtake humanity in slavery through the means of depopulation, and dehumanization. This is meant to be achieved through the poisoning of the food and water, as well as through the control of information. To many, namely those who are Christ enlightened, or Christians, this coincides with the beast in the book of Revelations - the last book of the Holy Jude’s-Christian Bible, wherein an entity called ‘the beast’ overtakes the world and starts a new religion, one that is of Satan and not of God essentially. The big corporations, or the oligopoly, who arguably control everything from the flow of money to energy, gas, and aforementioned resources such as food, water, and even information - the media - utilize means of ‘black magic’ as we called it in a previous chapter, by ways of desensitization through the means of subliminal messaging and otherwise. This can be seen in many movies, television shows, video games, internet sites, and within the music of the modern major music labels and their respective music videos.
Christians believe that a new age is coming, wherein ‘a new heaven and a new Earth’ come to be, as is also foretold in “The Book of the Last Days”, the book of “Revelation”, the final book of the New Testament, written by John the Baptist, a close disciple of Jesus Christ. The book was written on the Isle of Patmos, Greece upon John having had the vision that he wrote about in the book during the 1st century A.D shortly after the death and resurrection of Christ. This could all relate to the New World Order, as many Christian interpret the book to be prophetic of their means to create a one world government present-day. This of course is in similar to ‘the beast’ figure aforementioned which is characterized in Revelation.
According to Wikipedia, the New World Order is: “…a conspiracy theory that hypothesizes a secretly emerging totalitarian world government.”
Actually, upon performing a simple google search of the New World Order, this exact image and text populates:

- Pokémon Gen IV
Indeed one might surmise that the creators of Pokémon, being from Japan and being very anti-communism and anti-CCP (communist chinese party), are revealing things like the tree of life as being the Amanita (which again is one theory about the tree of life in genesis - of course the amanita is also thematic in “Super Mario”, along other Nintendo games as well, as is aformentioned) as well as the New World Order and their agenda, as is seen in this particle example now presented with “Team Galactic”, the perpetrators and antagonists in the fourth generation Pokémon games “Diamond” and “Pearl”, respectively - the fourth generation of games in the Gameboy system series.
The thesis herein is that the creators have depicted this in order to portray the truth of the mysteries and the state of the world in an artistic way, which in turn, is making something positive and enlightening out of the video games which they know are reaching so many of the masses, particularly the youth. Think of it as “white magic” use in media, as opposed to much of the black magic we explained about earlier, which, by the way, is present in the Marvel series or in the “Men In Black” series as two examples.
Take a look at these scenes from the hideout of Team Galactic in the Pokémon Diamond series:
This all goes in line with the purported agenda of the New World Order. It is exactly the same - ‘we want your pokemon (children) and their mysterious power, we are creating new forms of energy, using technology (the laptops everywhere in the lab), they do not believe in earth they believe in space...’, this all coincidence again with the purported agende of the N.W.O. The icing on the cake is that they're doing it for the new world order.
Here are some of other scenes taken from a Psychic Pokémon trainors words to the main character of the game:
- Conclusion
So perhaps not all of the influence of video games is bad for our youth. Some, namely, the Pokémon series, may be a form of “white magic“ rather than “dark magic”, or “black magic“. One thing is for certain, Being one of the largest video game and TV series enterprises of all time, Pokémon has had a massive influence on the world, particularly the youth of the world… In fact, the Pokémon TV series is even known to be the first cartoon anime series to ever become popular in the United States or the West. Who would’ve thought that it would have so much within it that refer to so many other things, such as entheogens, Christianity, and the New World Order!
